Cellular agriculture investor Agronomics has joined the Alternative Proteins Association (APA) as a founding member, it announced on Friday, following the association’s launch at the Houses of Parliament on 15 March.

The AIM-traded firm described the APA as a trade association and non-profit organisation, founded to foster collaboration across the value chain.

It said it would be a place for entrepreneurs, policymakers, researchers, thought-leaders and investors to navigate the UK regulatory process, and advocate for public policy to support the development of the “rapidly evolving” UK alternative protein industry.

“We believe that the UK has a huge opportunity to show leadership in the burgeoning alternative proteins industry, with the opportunity to shape its own regulatory framework,” said executive chairman Jim Mellon.

“The launch of the APA will serve to enhance collaboration within the alternative protein ecosystem and directly involve policymakers in the conversation, ultimately accelerating the timeline for cellular agriculture products to reach the UK market.”

At 1352 GMT, shares in agronomics were down 1.07% at 17.56p.
