AorTech announced on Wednesday that the Brazilian Patent Office recently granted Patent Number PI 0711694-2, entitled ‘Biostable Gels’.

The AIM-traded firm said the invention related to biostable gels, the processes for their preparation, and their use in the manufacture and repair of biomaterials and medical devices or implants.

It said a particular application would be on soft tissue implants, such as breast implants.

“The issue of this patent further expands AorTech's patent portfolio, particularly in the area of breast implants,” said AorTech chairman Bill Brown.

“Brazil is one of the largest markets for breast enhancement outside of the US, and is therefore an important patent territory.

“The portfolio of intellectual property relating to breast implants is not currently licensed by AorTech.”
