AIM-listed firm Barkby Group has acquired the freehold of the Coach and Horses, a 16th-century village pub in Chiselhampton, Oxfordshire.

Barkby said on Friday that it will now undertake "a comprehensive refurbishment" of the pub and its nine rooms, with reopening of the site scheduled for June 2022.

The group highlighted that the acquisition was a further expansion of its portfolio of "high-quality pubs with accommodation", with its Barkby Pubs' portfolio now consisting of eight premises with a total of 69 rooms.

Chairman Charles Dickson said: "The Coach and Horses' location in the Oxfordshire countryside is highly complementary to our existing portfolio of premium pubs.

"The pub will offer customers a high-class drinking, dining, and sleeping experience, and I very much welcome them into the Barkby Group."

As of 0905 BST, Barkby shares had slumped 9.68% to 14.0p.
