Ceres Power received a boost for its Steel Cell technology on Tuesday, announcing it had signed a new evaluation agreement with a leading global manufacturer.

The AIM-traded developer of low-cost, next-generation fuel cell technology said that, under the agreement, Ceres would deploy a complete Steel Cell system for a period of rigorous testing.

If the testing was to prove successful then, under the terms of an additional memorandum of understanding, the two parties would enter into the joint development of a multiple kilowatt system.

Ceres Power did not make the identity of the manufacturer immediately clear.

The agreement was building on the advancements in the Steel Cell technology power density and efficiency, which Ceres revealed on 2 December 2015.

"There is a growing demand for low carbon distributed power due to increasing pressure on conventional power generation", said Ceres Power chief executive Phil Caldwell.

He said the company was now developing high efficiency power systems, providing superior performance to the grid in terms of efficiency and emissions, and enabling power to be generated at the point of need in the home or business.

"We are continuing to deliver against our strategy of establishing the Steel Cell as the platform of choice for the future power products of the world's leading companies", he added.
