Concurrent Technologies enters systems market with new product launch
Embedded computer board designer and manufacturer Concurrent Technologies has entered the systems market, it announced on Wednesday, through the launch of a new off-the-shelf, ‘ruggedised’ vision computer system, Helios.
The AIM-traded firm said the launch had the potential to “significantly expand” its addressable market.
Its stated strategy had been to expand beyond the provision of plug-in cards (PICs) into systems that use its own processor PICs augmented with best-in-class PICs from supplementary manufacturers.
Rugged and small form-factor products like Helios, which was designed to withstand “the harshest of environmental conditions”, were targeted at a section of the defence systems market estimated in 2020 to be worth $105m, and to be growing at 17.9% per year.
Concurrent said it was “committed” to providing a range of ruggedised systems, adding that Helios had the flexibility to meet a number of customer applications including command-and-control display, degraded vision enhancement and 360-degree vehicle situational awareness.
The core system would enable the launch of future storage, sensing and control systems by harnessing different combinations of application-specific PICs.
“The launch of Helios is a milestone achievement for Concurrent, representing our entry into the substantial and fast-growing systems market,” said chief executive officer Miles Adcock.
“Helios also demonstrates our commitment to create solutions based on customer demand utilising the expertise of our research and development teams.
“Expanding our capabilities to meet the growing demand of the systems market has been a part of our stated strategy and we expect to make further announcements as we continue to enhance our portfolio and capabilities in this field.”
At 1046 BST, shares in Concurrent Technologies were up 7.45% at 77.9p.
