Network security company Corero Network Security announced on Wednesday that its ‘SmartWall’ Threat Defense System technology had been selected to protect an unnamed, “high profile” US Federal Government agency.

The AIM-traded firm said the $0.4m order would provide distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack mitigation capacity for a number of the agency's sites, delivering up to 200 Gbps of always-on protection.

It said the solution comprised multiple Corero SmartWall products, with supporting ‘SecureWatch’ services for one year.

The Corero board claimed that awareness of the threat posed by short duration DDoS attacks was growing, and as a result its target market for the scalable SmartWall solution was expanding beyond service providers and hosting providers to include increasing numbers of digital enterprises and government departments seeking always-on DDoS mitigation technologies.

“We are delighted to welcome the US Federal Government as a Corero customer,” quipped CEO Ashley Stephenson.

“This purchase follows a demanding trial period in which our SmartWall product successfully provided real-time DDoS protection across notable national projects run by the agency concerned, defeating several significant attacks.”
