Edenville Energy began producing washed coal after commissioning and testing of the wash plant on its Rukwa coal project in south-west Tanzania was completed.

Edenville said the wash plant had begun processing material to fulfil earlier orders for coal, with management expecting production levels to exceed their current 10,000 tonnes per month rate by the end of January 2018.

Rufus Short, Edenville's chief executive, said "The start of production of washed coal is a major milestone for Edenville. It is just over eight months since we decided to proceed with development of the Rukwa coal project and I am delighted that we have been able to move into production so quickly, despite some challenges along the way."

As of 0915 BST, Edenville shares had ticked up 6.15% to 0.690p.
