Independent videogame developer and publisher Frontier Developments’ Jurassic World Evolution game has sold more than 1m units in less than six weeks.

The AIM traded company said sales of the movie tie-in game have been strong across the three platforms on which it is available, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC, since its digital launch on 12 June.

Physical disk copies of the game have also been “encouraging” since a 3 July launch date.

David Braben, chief executive of Frontier, said: "There is no doubt that initial sales have benefitted from the worldwide awareness created by the film release, but it's the quality of the game that's really important and I believe our team have done a terrific job in creating a game that a wide range of players are now enjoying around the world".

Based on the 2015 Jurassic World film, the game allows players to construct and operate a Jurassic World dinosaur theme park and includes voice acting from members of the cast including Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard and B. D. Wong.

Elsewhere, the company reports that its Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster titles are continuing to sell well and in line with expectations following the release of extra downloadable content.

Frontier said it plans to release further expansions to support all three titles.

Frontier Developments’ shares, which hit an all-time high above 1,800p last month, were down 6.98% at 1,200p at 1612 BST on Thursday.
