Videogames publisher Frontier Developments warned on Monday that sales of its Jurassic World Evolution 2 title on the PC platform had been lower than originally projected since its release earlier in the month.

Frontier believes this to potentially be a short-term effect from "a more crowded release window than expected", with a number of other highly anticipated titles launching in the same window.

The AIM-listed group also noted that the title's release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles went ahead "smoothly" and added that console sales numbers were "largely as expected".

Frontier insisted that it believes the initial PC sales were "primarily a phasing issue" and that it expects "further significant sales" around Christmas.

Sales in the first 12 months were also expected to benefit from the launch of the Jurassic World Dominion film in June 2022.

Chief executive David Braben said: "Whilst initial sales on PC have been lower than we targeted, the game is already being enjoyed by around half a million players across all platforms, and showing very strong critical and player reviews. We are confident that it's another terrific addition to our great portfolio of games. Frontier's future looks strong and our portfolio continues to grow."

As of 0920 GMT, Frontier Developments shares had slumped 30.19% to 1,741.80p.
