Getech issued an update to the market on Tuesday, after an announcement from the Oil and Gas Authority that - as part of the authority’s “ongoing commitment” to encourage activity in underexplored areas of the UK Continental Shelf, it was purchasing a “comprehensive suite” of datasets and other information sources.

The AIM-traded Getech, which was an existing OGA supplier and provider of data and information expertise to the natural resources sector, was awarded a further contract for the supply of satellite-derived gravity data covering the entire UKCS as part of the authority’s commitment.

It said the package of data sold was a subset of an “innovative global dataset” developed by Getech through the combination of newly-available satellite altimetry with advances in the company’s proprietary processing methods.

That had enabled Getech to create a “spectacular new gravity data set” with comparable resolution to conventional regional 2D ship-borne surveys.

“Through this data sale, our work for the OGA in the Western Approaches Area and our contract to define and execute the OGA's spatial data strategy, we are very pleased to continue our collaborative relationship,” said Getech CEO Jonathan Copus.

“We fully support and share the goal of the OGA to encourage organisations to further investigate previously under-explored areas of the UKCS.”
