Clean energy company ITM Power has signed a contract with Europcar UK to refuel its electric car fleet, building on its previous contract win from Hyundai Motor.

The AIM-listed company has agreed to sell hydrogen fuel at £10 per kilogramme to Europcar after the rental car service was awarded a grant from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles to buy a fleet of hydrogen cars.

ITM Power, which is being financially supported by Innovate UK, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, and the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking public private partnership, will provide fuel for the new fleet of Toyota Mirai fuel cell electric cars.

This is the sixth fuel supply contract the company has signed, including the contract with Hyundai Motor, announced on 4 November, as Europcar joins Toyota, Commercial Group, Arcola Energy and Arval as fuel customers, while it had opened three public access hydrogen refuelling stations around the UK so far, two of which in London.

Chief executive Dr Graham Cooley said: "The adoption of hydrogen fuel cell Electric vehicles and our green hydrogen fuel continues to gather pace. We congratulate Europcar on the award and their decision to create the largest privately owned fleet of hydrogen cars for chauffeur drive and corporate rental."

Shares in ITM power up 2.96% to 23.94p at 0800 GMT.
