Johnston Press wins extended Trinity Mirror contract to print i newspaper

Johnston Press, the multimedia business announced an extension on its print and distribution contract with Trinity Mirror on Tuesday.

The agreement contains improved operational benefits and commercial terms between the two, Johnston Press said, primarily in regards to the print contract for the i newspaper.

Johnston Press print sites in Portsmouth and Sheffield will be used through 2020, as will the Cardonald site in Scotland that produces the Scotsman and Scotland Today.

Ashley Highfield, chief executive officer of Johnston Press, said: "It is important, in this current media climate, to look for ways to work together to stabilise and strengthen relationships in the UK newspaper market.

"We are therefore delighted to confirm that we will be working with Trinity Mirror for a further three years, in a mutually supportive printing arrangement. The operational benefits are important and will be particularly helpful as we look to develop the Saturday issue of the i newspaper."

As of 1140 BST, Johnston Press shares had risen 9.11% to 12.00p.
