Lexington Gold launches Bothaville drilling programme

South Africa and US-focussed explorer and developer Lexington Gold has initiated its 2023-2024 drilling program at the Bothaville Project in the Witwatersrand Gold Basin of South Africa, it announced on Friday.
The AIM-traded firm said the programme, covering more than 2,000 metres, would involve drilling four primary mother holes and wedging activities.
It said the campaign’s primary objective was to confirm and expand upon the gold mineralisation previously encountered during historical third-party drilling efforts.
Roughly half of the drilling activities would employ percussion drilling techniques to penetrate the Karoo Supergroup, known as ‘Karoo cover’.
The primary focus of the exploration lay in the gold-bearing conglomerates of the Kimberley Formation, including A-Reef, situated beneath the Karoo cover at depths starting from 250 metres.
Diamond drilling would be used to access those deeper layers.
The board said the drilling programme was expected to take two to three months to complete, factoring in a planned shutdown period during Christmas.
“We are pleased to announce the commencement of our 2023-2024 drilling campaign at the Bothaville Project in the Witwatersrand Gold Basin,” said chairman Ed Nealon.
“This strategic initiative involves a planned 2,000-metre-plus drilling campaign aimed at validating and expanding the known gold mineralisation at Bothaville within the Kimberley Formation.
“As we embark on this exploration activity, we anticipate providing regular updates on our progress and other concurrent initiatives in the forthcoming months.”
At 1004 GMT, shares in Lexington Gold were down 3.89% at 3.6p.
