Modern Water opens world's first brine treatment plant in India
Modern Water on Wednesday lauded the opening of the world’s first brine treatment plant, which utilises the company’s all membrane brine concentration process (AMBC).
The AIM-traded water and wastewater treatment technology firm said the plant, which had its ribbon cut by British deputy high commissioner of Gujarat Geoff Wain, will treat technically challenging waste water for chemicals giant Bodal Chemicals, one of the world's leading manufacturer of dyes and dye intermediates.
Modern Water’s AMBC process reduces the cost of zero liquid discharge (ZLD) plants through its basis of proprietary forward osmosis.
The project was developed by Modern Water and Advent Envirocare Technology, one of India’s leading wastewater management companies.
Simon Humphrey, chief executive of Modern Water, said: "We are proud that senior management of Bodal, and the British deputy high commissioner have opened what is a world-first. Our partnership with Advent in India is going from strength to strength and we are working hard to replicate the same model of partnership with credible local players in other countries."
Modern Water provided specialist equipment and training to Bodal’s staff, and the newly opened plant will now be operated by Bodal under supervision from Advent.
Soham Mehta, chief executive of Advent, said: "Our partnership with Modern Water allows us to offer large international industrial companies, such as Bodal, a way of treating or recycling their water in a cost-effective way to a standard that is world leading."
As of 1132 BST, Modern Water’s shares were down 5.65% at 8.35p.
