Mporium appoints search guru Ohrn as chief technology officer

Event-driven marketing technology company Mporium Group announced the appointment of Aleksander Øhrn as its chief technology officer on Thursday, with immediate effect.

The AIM-traded firm said Øhrn was most recently the co-founder and CTO of Cxense, a position that he held for the past seven years.

Prior to that, he worked for Microsoft's Bing web search engine as its principal software development engineer.

Øhrn was also previously the chief scientist for Fast Search & Transfer. where he worked on search technology and computational linguistics.

Mporium said he holds a PhD in computer science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and serves as an adjunct professor at the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo.

Øhrn is also a member of the Technology Advisory Board at Unacast.

“We are delighted to announce Aleksander's appointment as CTO; he is a world-class talent that will contribute significantly to our strategy, our technical execution and our management bandwidth,” said Mporium chief executive Nelius De Groot.

“Having known Aleksander for a number of years, we have been extremely impressed by his capabilities and are thrilled that he is joining the senior management team at Mporium.”

De Groot said Øhrn has a “deep knowledge” of Mporium's target markets, and is “hugely enthusiastic” about the potential of the business with a strong working relationship with the management team.

“Aleksander brings a wealth of valuable expertise that will facilitate our ambitions of further extending Mporium's artificial intelligence capabilities.

“AI is already a key differentiator for the Mporium business and Aleksander's appointment will significantly strengthen our capabilities in this regard.”
