Oil and gas company Northern Petroleum says Shell Italia E&P S.p.A has initiated a local engagement programme in relation to the Cascina Alberto permit.

The permit is onshore, northern Italy. Northern Petroleum owned a 20% non-operated working interest and was carried for the seismic acquisition up to a gross cost of $4m.

Northern said the engagement programme was being undertaken in advance of the submission of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) necessary to conduct a geophysical survey.

The company added that the programme included up to 200 meetings to gather information and opinion to assist with the EIA submission.

Field work for the seismic survey was expected to begin in 2018, following approval of the EIA.

At 14:02 GMT, shares in AIM-listed Northern were down 3.32% to 4.81p each.
