International software company servicing government, life sciences, entertainment and engineering markets Oxford Metrics announced the launch of Shōgun - a new Vicon motion capture software platform - on Thursday.

The AIM-traded firm said its subsidiary Vicon would announce the launch of Shōgun at FMX 2017, which it described as Europe's “most influential” conference dedicated to digital visual arts, technologies and business.

It said the new software - the first from Vicon for the entertainment industry since 2007 - capitalised on more than 30 years of motion capture experience and years of research and development.

The software would offer users in the entertainment industry a new level of efficiency and quality, necessary to meet the growing demands of game, film and virtual reality production, Oxford Metrics said.

“Shōgun is yet another example of how Vicon not only keeps up with the changing demands of the industries it serves, but also actually sets the pace of that change - challenging the definition of what's possible in motion capture,” said Oxford Metrics CEO Nick Bolton.

“Implementing Shōgun can significantly improve the ability of users to capture, locate and interrogate motion - enhancing the quality and sophistication of the entertainment products they can go on to produce, whilst saving them time and money.”
