AIM-quoted oil and gas exploration company Pantheon Resources has appointed Dr Eric van Oort as its new technical consultant to advise the firm on well construction and performance optimisation.

Pantheon said van Oort, a known expert on wellbore geomechanics, was "positioned perfectly" to advise the firm on its future drilling operations.

Recent issues at the firm's Texas acreage, which Pantheon has repeatedly stated its belief in the geological potential of, had been largely operational and the group now hopes that the appointment of van Oort will help address the challenges that have occurred during the drilling of its previous wells.

Chief executive Jay Cheatham said: "I am truly delighted Pantheon has attracted an industry expert of the calibre of Professor Dr Eric van Oort. In securing his services as a consultant to the company, I have no doubt he will bring his widely recognised expertise to bear as our project in east Texas advances."

Elsewhere, Pantheon has begun clearing trees from the path of its soon-to-be-laid Tyler County gas processing pipeline.

As of 1030 BST, Pantheon shares had risen 2.65% to 17.05p.
