Sports nutrition company Science in Sport announced on Monday that it has renewed its agreement with Team Sky through to 2020 as its official sports nutrition partner.

The AIM-traded firm said the five-times Tour de France and 2017 Vuelta Espana winners would continue to work with SiS and its sports nutrition experts to create bespoke products and provide support and advice to fuel their world-class athletes including Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas and Michal Kwiatkowski.

Team Sky tailored nutritional plans for each individual athlete, the SiS board explained, that would include a wide range of SiS products, from its patented GO Isotonic Energy Gels to the co-developed REGO Rapid Recovery Plus.

“Nutrition and fuelling are key factors in our success,” said Team Sky principal David Brailsford.

“Getting these elements right is absolutely crucial to enabling Team Sky riders to perform at their best - both in training and on race day.”

Brailsford said that as a team, sports nutrition was an area it placed importance on through both the nutritional support provided to riders, as well as through innovation, research and rider education.

“We seek to be supported by the best.

“Science in Sport understand and share our commitment to continuous improvement, and that makes them a key partner of Team Sky and we're looking forward to achieving more with them over the next 3 years.”

SiS said it had supplied endurance nutrition products to Olympic and world champions, Tour de France winners and amateur athletes since 1992.

It also pointed out that Britain's most decorated Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy, was also an elite consultant for the company along with Mark Cavendish MBE.

“We proudly supply innovative, science-based nutrition products to professional and Olympic athletes and teams around the world,” said SiS CEO Stephen Moon.

“Team Sky is one of our key relationships and we enjoy collaborating closely with them to deliver performance improvements through our industry leading science and new product team.

“We are looking forward to another three years working with Team Sky, supporting their world-class racing programme and in turn seeing products developed with them filter down to our whole customer base.”
