AIM-listed software company Scisys has won a €3.3m contract with aircraft maker Airbus to build the payload operations centre for a Franco-German satellite climate mission.

Scisys signed a contract with Airbus’ defence and space division to provide central functions for the payload operations centre for the methane remote sensing lidar missions satellite, MERLIN, which also including interfaces to the overall satellite ground segment of the project.

The contract runs from the end of 2016 until the planned launch of the Merlin satellite in April 2021.

Climate satellite Merlin will measure the concentration of methane in the Earth's atmosphere and will aim to provide data for greater understanding of what factors influence the planet’s climate and could help with implementing the Paris climate agreement.

Chief executive Klaus Heidrich said: "I am delighted with the continued involvement of Scisys, through its space division, in the Merlin programme.

"Scisys is recognised as a long-term partner to Airbus and the German Space Agency, and I am very pleased to strengthen our role as a valuable partner of the German national space programme.

"This is another great achievement for Scisys and its space division, and further supports the group's positive outlook."

Shares Scisys were up 0.01% to 108.01p GMT.
