SolGold worked to assure the market it was left unscathed by a large earthquake in Ecuador on Monday, and promised a sum of money to assist those who were affected.

At least 272 people were killed and more than 2,500 injured after a magnitude 7.8 tremor struck the country’s coast on Saturday.

“The board of directors of SolGold expresses its sincere condolences for the tragic loss of life and homes from the earthquake in Ecuador,” it said in a statement.

“SolGold is currently exploring the Cascabel copper-gold porphyry project in Imbabura Province in northern Ecuador,” it confirmed.

The board advised there had been no disruption of any kind to its activities at Cascabel, and said it would issue an exploration update in due course.

It also said it will make a donation to the Ecuador government as a contribution to the earthquake relief effort, and committed to assisting the relief effort “where possible”.
