Sound Energy begins drilling at Badile in Italy

African and European focused upstream gas company Sound Energy confirmed on Wednesday that drilling of the Badile exploration well, onshore Italy, had commenced on 7 March.

The AIM-traded firm said the Badile well site is located in Northern Italy, the board said, 15 kilometres to the south of Milan and the exploration well would reportedly test the hydrocarbon potential of the Conchodon Dolomite reservoir of Lower Jurassic-Triassic age.

Sound’s board said the well was planned to be drilled and logged to a total depth of 4,445m - with 4,378m total vertical depth - with drilling and logging expected to take around 100 days.

Assuming gas is encountered, a further 25 days would be required for the completion and testing phase.

“The company looks forward to updating shareholders on achievement of each of the four casing points, being an 18 5/8" casing at a measured depth of approximately 500m, a 16" casing at a measured depth of approximately 1,400m, a 13 3/8" casing at a measured depth of approximately 2,600m and a 9 5/8" casing at measured depth of approximately 3,513m, and at the last open hole section to the total depth of 4,445m,” Sound Energy’s board explained in a statement.
