Thalassa Holdings said its Autonomous Robotics arm is developing a flying node system which operates as a swarm of autonomous underwater vehicles for recording ocean bottom seismic data.

The energy services company said: “This technology has the potential to hugely disrupt the offshore seismic market.”

Thalassa said Autonomous Robotics has predicted a tenfold increase in the deployment and recovery rates compared to other nodes, which should help to substantially reduce the cost of gathering seismic data.

Ocean bottom seismic surveys record very high quality seismic data especially suitable for field appraisal and development.

At 1300 BST, shares in Thalassa were down 0.9% at 53p.
