Onshore oil and gas exploration Union Jack Oil has announced that the well at the Wressle-1 well-site has been completed.

The company, which owns a 10% interest in the project, said that Egdon Resources expects testing operations at the site, located at Burton on the Wolds in Leicestershire, to commence by mid-October.

The Burton on the Wolds Prospect is defined on proprietary 2D seismic data which Egdon acquired in May 2011 and evaluation has highlighted an oil prospect with targets at two different levels, the shallower of which, the Rempstone Sandstone, is productive at the nearby Rempstone oil field.

Egdon’s estimates suggest that the combined prospective resource for the two targets is 3.8m barrels of oil.

The planned vertical well will be relatively shallow with a drilled depth of around 1,000 metres, Egdon said.
