Ahmet Dik was appointed chief executive of Victoria Oil and Gas (VOG) on Thursday. Dik, 43, was previously chief executive of the company’s subsidiary Gaz du Cameroun (GDC).

A lawyer by profession, Dik secured the grid power supply contract with ENEO, Cameroon's national transmission and distribution company, presided over growth in gas sales, secured a local debt instrument, the assignment of the 1,235km Matanda block to VOG and was involved in the design and planning phase of the company's 2016 drilling programme.

VOG said it is aiming to develop its integrated gas supply network and expansion programme, which will include further expanding its network on the Bonabari shore and two new gas wells at Logbaba in Cameroon.

Chairman Kevin Foo said Ahmet's appointment followed a sustained period of operational delivery from the company as it seeks to expand further in Cameroon.

“Ahmet has been instrumental in that growth over the last three years and now he will lead us as we expand further in Cameroon and elsewhere within Africa."

Dik said: "I am delighted with my appointment as VOG chief executive as our company moves into the next growth phase. What we have achieved in terms of monetising gas supply in Cameroon and delivering it to a domestic market has been remarkable.

"We shall continue to focus on maintaining reliability, consistency and quality of product. We intend to increase our gas reserves and production supply to meet the large demand for cheaper, clean and convenient energy in Cameroon."

VOG’s share price rose 0.97% to 32.31p at 1205 BST.
