AIM-listed 'big data' software company WANdisco appointed industry veteran Erik Miller chief financial officer and a director of the board with immediate effect on Wednesday.

Miller, who will be based in San Ramon, California, has over 20 years’ experience of shaping the finance functions of privately and publicly held technology companies.

He was previously CFO of Nasdaq-listed software-based video processing company Envivio and CFO of Sydney-based telecommunications company SigNav.

The company is yet to make a profit as it invested heavily in expansion projects, and since the beginning of 2015 around two-thirds of its value has been lost.

Miller succeeded Paul Harrison, who left the company and became CFO of food ordering website JustEat in early September.

Non-executive chairman Paul Walker said Miller has experience with companies at WANdisco's stage and size, and his skills in the software sector and public equity markets “will build neatly upon the strong financial platform we have worked hard to put in place in recent years”.

Miller added: "This company is at an exciting stage in its development, in the market with an unbeatable product and embedded with some of the strongest possible partners a technology company could ask for."

Shares in WANdisco were up 3.61% to 215p at 0953 BST.
