Construction stagnation in the eurozone continued in April, with the industry decreasing by 0.4% on average, according to Eurostat.

Building production in the bloc fell compared to the same period in 2015, and has slipped 0.2% on a month to month basis since March.

A 0.7 per cent drop in eurozone construction activity sent the sector backwards in April, but civil engineering was the best performing sub-industry, growing by 1.3 per cent on an annual measure.

Spain topped the table for the eurozone's biggest drop in the construction industry, as they enetered a fourth month of consecutive falls.

The UK was the best performing state according to the findings, as the industry grew by 3% from March to April, but time will tell if this growth continues after Thursday's referendum on EU membership.
