A British family who were forced off an easyJet plane and instead went on holiday to a caravan park were awarded 4,240 pounds in compensation on Wednesday.

Parents Carolyn and Jay Mortimore paid 2,300 pounds for an all-inclusive half-term holiday with their kids, seveen-year-old Brayden and 12-year old Ryley.

They were unable to fly out on the aircraft as fellow passengers would not move so they could sit together. Although they had booked the holiday with travel agent Thomas Cook last year, the flight was overbooked by the airline.

The family were told they were not allowed to sit separately because the easyJet rules state children have to be next to an adult.

Other passengers on board the plane refused to move to allow the family to sit together – meaning they had to disembark.

The Mortimore’s were initially only offered £800 compensation. But due to the publicity their story generated, they have now accepted a joint offer from easyJet and Thomas Cook – who they booked their holiday through – for £3,640 plus £600 worth of holiday vouchers.
