Picture messaging app Snapchat is introducing changes to its service to increase traffic to publishers' content, as it promises not to rest on its laurels following news last week that it had taken over Twitter in terms of daily users.

In an update being made available today, Snapchatters will be able to subscribe to various publishers that post stories and videos to the Discover section of the app.

It will look very different, as it now will provide a preview image of stories as well as a headline to allow users to have more of an insight to the story before entering it.

Publishers and news sites have been rushing towards Snapchat as the five-year-old app shows impressive gains in traffic among a younger, trendier demographic. According to Quartz, reports have said that they are also said to be considering introducing a Facebook style news feed where algorithms reign supreme.

Discover is Snapchat's biggest revenue puller, as big media company's such as ESPN, CNN and Vice have all paid to feature on the app through it, with the app projecting $300 million in revenue this year
