Zidane recruited to sell luxury homes in Mumbai
Ex-football superstar to promote developer Kanakia's project in the Indian city
- New residential area in the north of the city to be named "Paris" and modelled on the French capital
Zinedine Zidane has been recruited by Indian property developer Kanakia Spaces Pvt to sell luxury homes in the city of Mumbai.
Zidane is a former France and Real Madrid footballer, and winner of the Ballon D'or award for the world's best player. He is now currently in charge of his old club Real, and just last month guided his team to a famous Champions League victory.
Now the Frenchman hopes to translate that success to the Indian property market as Kanakia hope to capitalise on the World Cup winner's image. They have hired the former attacking midfielder to market a high-end residential project named Paris in Mumbai’s new business district in the northern part of the city called Bandra.
Zidane has been signed on as the project’s wellness brand ambassador to design the development’s fitness and sports areas. They have not disclosed how much Zidane will be paid for the venture.
The project will be inspired by the French capital after which it is named, and will include huge replicas of famous monuments the Eiffel Tower and Louvre museum.

To promote the project, "Zizou" donned a traditional garment known as a kurta and attended a fashion show and panel discussion, as well as participating in a bare-foot penalty shootout competition.
Mumbai has had problems in recent times with high percentages of unsold homes, and sellers have been adopting more and more creative approaches in order to flog their properties. A developer called Ekta World offered customers a BMW 5 series car as incentive to buy a four-bedroom home in its Invictus project in central Mumbai. Another offered buyers a chance to make use of state-of-the-art sports facilities used in the U.S tennis open.
Zidane has set out some of his reasons for coming on board with the ambitious project, specifically citing its label as "the origin of yoga" as being a factor. I practice it every day to retain my concentration. "It helps me beat stress. I can sleep peacefully before a match day."
