Budget airline easyJet has confirmed it will cancel all flights to and from Sharm El Sheikh until 6 January.

The decision comes less than a month after Metrojet Flight 9268 exploded over the northern Sinai desert shortly after departing from the Egyptian resort and killing all 224 people on board.

Islamic State have since claimed responsibility for the incident, the deadliest aircraft bombing since Pan Am Flight 103 was brought down in 1988 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience this will obviously cause, but we hope that being clear with all our customers at this point helps you to manage your plans with more certainty," the company said in a statement on its website on Tuesday morning.

"The situation is beyond our control and passenger safety will always be our number one priority."

easyJet shares were down 3.42% to 1,589.72p at 0834 GMT on Tuesday.
