General Election: Fourth results round-up [05:00 BST] - Nick Clegg wins, Cable loses

As results for the UK general election continue to roll in on Friday morning, stunning outcomes continue to emerge from Scotland on what is turning out to be a very bad night for the Liberal Democrats and Labour, with Conservatives tipped to emerge as the largest party. See below for a round-up of the constituencies that have released their results.

The Conservatives have held: Swindon North, Putney, Battersea, Nuneaton, Broxbourne, Fareham, Caste Point, Swindon South, Peterborough, Montgomeryshire. The SNP gained: Kilmarnock & Loudin, Paisley & Renfrewshire South, Dunbartonshire West, Dundee Wet, Ochil & Perthshire South, Falkirk, Glenrothes East Kilbride, Strathaven & Lesmahagow, Motherwell & Wishaw, Midlothian, Dunbartonshire East, Rutherglen & Hamilton West, Kirkaldy & Cowdenbeath, Paisley & Renfrewshire North, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire East, Glasgow North, Airdrie & Shotts, Stirling, Ayrshire North & Arran, Glasgow East Cumberland, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East, Linlithgow & Falkirk East, Glasgow South West, Dunfermline & Fife West, Aberdeen North, Glasgow North East, Coatbridge, Chryston & Bellshill, Livingston, Ayrshire Central, Glasgow South, Fife North East, East Lothian, Glasgow North West, Edinburgh South West, Glasgow Central, Gordon, Aberdeen South, Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock, Edinburgh North & Leith, Aberdeenshire W & Kincardine, Edinburgh East

They also held the Western Isles, Angus, Moray, Perth & Perthshire North, Baniff & Buchan. They also held the Western Isles and Angus with an over 20% swing many cases. Even former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown's seat of Kirkaldy & Cowdenbeath has fallen to the SNP. Scottish Labour party leader Jim Murphy and heavyweight Douglas Alexander also lost their seats.

The Liberal Democrats held: Ceredigion and Westmorland & Lonsdale. Coalition cabinet ministers Vince Cable, Ed Davey and Lynne Featherstone have lost their seats in what is turning out to be a very bad night for the party. Heavyweights Simon Hughes and Jo Swinson have also lost, however party leader Nick Clegg has won his Sheffield Hallam seat.

Plaid Cymru held: Arfon, Carmarthen East & Dinefwr, Orkney & Shetland, Carshalton & Wallington, Southport

UKIP gained: Clacton

The SDLP have held: Foyle, Belfast South, Down South

The DUP have held: Lagan Valley, Strangford, Upper Ban, Antrim East, Belfast East, Belfast North, Londonberry East

Sinn Fein have held: Tyrone West, Belfast West and Mid Ulster

IND have held: Down North

The UUP gained: Antrim South

Earlier on Thursday, a shock exit poll, considered the first indication of how the British public has voted, put the Conservatives at 316, followed by Labour at 239 seats, Liberal Democrats at 10, Scottish National Party at 58 and UKIP at 2 seats.

Meanwhile, Labour party leader Ed Miliband is likely to announce his resignation later on Friday, according to media reports on the BBC, New Statesman and Sky News. However, a Labour party spokesperson declined comment when contacted by Sharecast saying "now was not the time for such talk."
