Protesters in Hong Kong have attempted to smash their way into parliament as pro-democracy demonstrations turned violent.

The masked teenagers stepped up their protests amid waning public support for their cause, using metal barricades to charge the government building.

Police reportedly responded with tear gas and pepper spray, while four arrests are believed to have been made.

An online forum called HKGolden is said to have made a call to action for its members to target the "Garbage Council".
