Following confirmation, on Tuesday evening, from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, of the first case of the Ebola virus on US soil, markets were on alert for any further news regarding the event, especially any further instances of confirmed infection.

At the time of writing yesterday’s case seems to be an isolated event.

Further reports have indicated, however, that the three members of the fire and rescue crew which came into contact with the patient have tested negative while the emergency room staff, which might also have been exposed, were placed under observation.

Some reports have also indicated that a second possible case of Ebola is being investigated by officials in Dallas, Texas, but according to local TV reporters no second case has been confirmed as of yet.

Nevertheless, the Director of the Dallas county Department of Health and Human Services has been quoted as saying that “he would not be shocked” should a second case be identified as a result of the current investigation.
