Brexit Bill receives Royal Assent

The Bill giving the UK government authority to start talks on leaving the European Union received Royal Assent from Queen Elizabeth on Thursday.

Officially known as the The European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, it has been more commonly called the "Brexit Bill" and cleared its final parliamentary hurdle on Monday.

Prime Minister Theresa May has indicated she will trigger the process to start talks by invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty at the end of March.

The UK voted to leave the EU in a referendum last June.
