The week ends on a quiet note after a hectic few days that have been dominated by the US election.

With no significant London-listed corporate results due, Friday’s focus will be on a small handful of economic data releases.

In the US, a report is expected to show a slight improvement in consumer sentiment in November. The University of Michigan’s preliminary consumer confidence index is forecast to rise to 87.9 this month from 87.2 in October.

Germany’s final inflation estimate for October will be released by Destatis in morning trade. Analysts expect the headline consumer price index rose 0.7% year-on-year, down from a preliminary forecast of 0.8% and in line with the previous month’s annualised growth.

In the UK, official data on construction output in September is forecast to fall 0.4% year-on-year and flat month-on-month. HSBC noted that the construction sector is “volatile but growth has been weak of late”. Output fell 1.5% month-on-month and rose just 0.2% year-on-year in August.
