Friday preview: Euro area inflation in focus

Investors' focus at the end of the week was likely to be on the euro, where investors would be digesting preliminary harmonised consumer price data covering the month of December in Portugal and Spain.

Worth noting, any downside surprises might conceivably lead economists to trim their projections for the euro area wide report due out on the following Friday.

Stateside, Market News International's Chicago factory PMI for December would be released at 1500 GMT.

No major economic releases were scheduled in Asia or the UK.
