Friday preview: UK public sector borrowing, Microsoft in the spotlight
The market spotlight on Tuesday will be on the UK government's finances at the end of 2021 and an update from US technology giant Microsoft.
At 0700 GMT, the Office for National Statistics will release public sector net borrowing data for the month of December. It will arrive even as investors are digesting the latest quarterly results from Microsoft, which will be released after the close of markets on Monday.
Later in the session, the Federal Housing Finance Agency will publish its home price index for the month of November, followed by a similar survey out of S&P Case-Shiller for that same month.
On the corporate side of things, Tesla will update investors after the close of trading in New York on Tuesday.
Across the Channel meanwhile, Germany's prestigious IFO institute will publish its closely-followed business confidence index referencing the month of January.
In the background, everyone will also be closely monitoring the news-flow around the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
