Thursday preview: Trading hours for global markets

UK markets will close early on Thursday as traders pop the champagne to bring in the new year.

The UK equity market will close at 1230 GMT and resume trading on Monday.

Germany and France are both shut for the day and will reopen on Monday.

Japan is also getting into the new year’s eve spirit as it is closed all day and on Friday.

However, the US can forget about leaving early to celebrate with markets operating normal trading hours. The US equity market will shut on Friday and resume trading on Monday.

The US will see the release of the initial jobless claims report but there are no other notable economic data releases.
