All eyes on Thursday would be on the US consumer price report for October.

The data, which was due out at 1230 GMT, was expected to reveal a dip in headline consumer prices to a year-on-year rate of 8.0% after a reading of 8.2% for the month before.

At the core level meanwhile, CPI was seen ticking lower by a tenth of a percentage point versus the prior month to 6.6%.

Against that backdrop, investors would be hoping and possibly digesting the ongoing tally of the mid-term elections.

In particular, they would be focusing on whether the Republican party was still headed towards a victory in the House of Representatives or not.

At least three top Federal Reserve officials were scheduled to take to the podium in the afternoon in the US, starting from 1335 GMT with Dallas Fed chief Lorie Logan.

Fed governor, Christopher Waller, was due to speak at 0700 GMT at an event on central bank digital currencies.

On home shores, overnight the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors would publish its UK home price balance for the month of October (consensus: 20.0).

Across the Channel, the European Central Bank was due to release its economic bulletin at 0900 GMT.

It would be published alongside a reading for industrial production in Italy at 0900 GMT, followed by Greek and Irish CPI prints at 1000 GMT and 1100 GMT, respectively.

On the corporate side of things, Haleon was due to update investors on its third quarter performance.

Ahead of the results, CMC Markets UK's chief market analyst, Michael Hewson, pointed out the consumer healthcare outfit's guidance for full-year organic sales growth of 6-8%.

To Hewson, that seemed to be "on the low side" given that the current winter was expected to see the first proper flu season after Covid.
