Tuesday preview: All eyes on Brussels and Westminster

While keeping one eye on the newsflow out of Brussels and Westminster, on the off-chance, but not impossible, possibility of a break in the clouds in the ongoing tensions between the two capitals, investors would also be keeping tabs on the ongoing flow of economic data.

Nonetheless, the economic agenda for Tuesday was quite light, although the Confederation of British Industry´s Distcributive Trades Survey for June would help inform markets of how retail spending was holding-up heading into the referendum on EU membership, which had implications for how well it would hold up in the fact of heightened uncertainty.

Revised data on US economic growth in the first quarter might also yield further clues on the underlying strength of the US economy, as would data on US consumer confidence in June, courtesy of the Conference Board institute, and house prices in April.
