Investors' focus on Tuesday will be firmly on Capitol Hill amid expectations that lawmakers are close to thrashing out a stimulus bill to help deal with the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

Against that backdrop, purchasing managers' surveys are due out across the globe and are expected to show sharp drops in both manufacturing and services sector activity.

Both in the UK and across the Channel, in the euro area, the latest PMIs are expected to come in comfortably within recession territory.

IHS Markit's composite UK PMI for both sectors is expected to fall from February's reading of 53.0 to 45.2, with a rival gauge covering the Eurozone seen falling from 51.6 to 38.9.
