Tuesday preview: Global PMIs, Public sector net borrowing in focus

Investors' focus on Tuesday would be on a raft of survey results out of the UK, euro area and US covering the month of May.

S&P Global's Purchasing Managers' Indices provide a first look at activity momentum in the economy and often move financial markets.

The UK and euro area PMIs were expected to show a slightly slower pace of contraction in factory activity in comparison to the month before, alongside a slightly slower pace of expansion in services.

As well, at 0700 BST the UK's Office for National Statistics would release April public sector net borrowing figures.

The Monetary Policy Committee's John Haskel was also due to deliver a speech, at 1545 BST.

US new home sales figures for April were also scheduled for release at 1500 BST.

European Central Bank vice-president, Luis de Guindos, would deliver a speech at 0815 BST.
