Tuesday preview: Trump, central bankers in focus

US President-elect Donald Trump will have to vie with central bankers for the spotlight on Tuesday, with Governor Mark Carney set to testify before Treasury Select Committee on the November Inflation Report.

Given the current market backdrop, it would be surprising if he were not queried about the implications for the policy of the US elections.

Alongside Carney, albeit a bit later in the session, two US Federal Reserve governors, the central bank's vice-chairman and one of its governors were scheduled to take to the podium.

They would be participating in an unusually heavy week in terms of Fedspeak.

In timely fashion, UK consumer price data for October were set for release at 0930 GMT.

Consensus was projecting the year-on-year rate of change in CPI to rise from 0.6% in September to 1.0% in October, although more medium-term market forecasts for CPI and the global economy had likely been rendered that much more uncertain in the wake of the surprise US election results, with investors left trying to anticipate the most likely path for US economic policies and global capital markets.

On the corporate front, easyJet was set to release full-year figures and Premier Foods its latest interims.
