Tuesday preview: US housing data, Fed's Powell in focus

The market spotlight on Tuesday will be on the US and a barrage of reports regarding the state of the country's housing market.

At 1400 BST, the Federal Housing and Finance Agency and S&P will publish the results of their home price surveys for July, which will be followed an hour later by another report for new home sales in August.

Against that backdrop, at 1230 BST the head of the US Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, is scheduled to participate in a panel discussion at the French central bank.

Also due out, at 1330 BST and 1500 BST, respectively, are date for US durable goods orders covering the month of August and the Conference Board's consumer confidence index referencing the month of September.

In the euro area meanwhile, M3 money supply figures for the month of August will be published at 0900 BST.

European Central Bank boss, Christine Lagarde, and her number two, Luis de Guindos, will participate at two separate events scheduled for 1230 BST and 1400 BST, respectively.

Investors will also be keeping an eye out for any disorderly or overly quick movements in foreign exchange and fixed income markets that might elicit action by economic authorities.

No major economic reports are due for release on home shores.
