Wednesday preview: Galliford Try finals, UK jobs data

Housebuilder Galliford Try will update the market on its post-Brexit outlook on Wednesday as it reports its full year results.

In its July trading update the company said there was increased uncertainty following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union but that it was too early to predict the likely outcome. At the time the group said it would update the market in more detail at its full year results.

Numis said it anticipates the group will report that trading conditions since the referendum have continued in line with forecasts. Galliford is also expected to reiterate that it is too early to fully ascertain the impact of Brexit.

“The group construction and partnership housing divisions should also provide a degree of diversification relative to pure housebuilding peers, although we would note that with housebuilding representing over 80% of total earnings before interest and tax, Galliford earnings and valuation will continue to be driven by this end market,” said Numis analyst Christen Hjorth.

Numis estimates pre-tax profit of £130.5m, up from £117.7m the previous year.

Meanwhile, UK jobs data from the Office for National Statistics will be in focus with analysts expecting little change to the figures.

UK employers are expected to have added 172,000 jobs in the three months to July, the same amount as the previous period, while the unemployment rate is forecast to hold at 4.9%. Average weekly earnings are forecast to slow to 2.1% growth during the period from a 2.4% increase.

The Energy Information Administration is set to release its weekly US crude inventories report, which will be closely scrutinised amid worries about the global supply glut. The data will come a day after the International Energy Agency warned the crude market will be oversupplied at least through the six months of 2017.
