Director dealings: Coats chairman ups stake

Coats Group revealed on Thursday that chairman Michael Clasper had purchased 200,000 ordinary shares in the FTSE 250-listed sewing thread and supplies manufacturer.

Clasper, who took over as Coats' chairman back in 2014, acquired the shares on Wednesday at an average price of 60.42p each, for a total value of £120,849.07.

Earlier in March, Coats warned that sales in China had fallen by $8m in the first two months of 2020 following enforced shutdowns of its factories due to the coronavirus epidemic.

"Looking forward we face uncertainty around the impact of the virus on the industry supply chain, both inside and outside of China. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and respond as necessary," cautioned the group.

As of 1630 GMT, Coats shares were down 8.35% at 54.30p.
