Director dealings: Collagen chairman puts more skin in game

Collagen Solutions chairman David Evans put more skin in the game on Monday as the company revealed annual losses had tightened up thanks to a plumped-up top line.

Serial entrepreneur and small company backer Evans took his stake in the company up to 8.6% by snapping up 900,000 shares in the AIM-listed company at a price of 6p apiece.

Evans, who is also chairman of Omega Diagnostics, OptiBiotix Health and Premaitha Health, earlier in the day reported on a glowing set of full year results that showed revenue and other income for the year ending 31 March up 213% to £3.2m thanks in large part to newly acquired Southern Lights Biomaterials.

Losses before interest tax and depreciation and amortisation (LBITDA) decreased 40.6% to £410,016 and the loss per share halved to 0.57p.

Evans said Collagen Solutions had made a positive start to the current financial year and he was "emboldened by the knowledge that the positive benefits of having 'sticky' revenues from embedded products will ensure about 70% of the group's ongoing revenues are already, in effect, secured".

He said the main challenges were to win new customers and execute the pipeline in a timely manner, with investment in personnel already made to achieve this.

"Additionally, we are looking to successfully execute our R&D pipeline where the investment that we have made, and continue to make, begins to produce cash flow."

The recent investment in the ChondroMimetic platform, he added, "represents a significant value creating opportunity but to deliver this we need to be smart about how we execute our plan to ensure we are not putting at risk shareholder value".

Shares in the company, having hit their lowest level of 5p since they were floated in 2013, were up 29% to 6.75p not long before the close of play on Monday.
