Director dealings: DMGT trio buy after results disappointment
Daily Mail and General Trust chairman Lord Rothermere and his new CEO and CFO bought £0.3m of shares on Friday, following disappointing interim results the day before.
Newspaper baron Rothermere, known to his less formal friends as Jonathan Harmsworth and with a net worth topping £900m, bought just over £99,100 worth of non-voting shares at a price of 694.30p, while chief executive Paul Zwillenberg forked out for £99,250 at 691.00p and recently appointed finance director Tim Collier for another £99,250 at the highest price of 696.5p.
Half year results on Thursday disappointed investors and sent the shares down around 7% as they showed further reductions in earnings per share not long after EPS expectations were rebased in DMGT's first-quarter update.
The media division performed relatively well with MailOnline like-for-like sales up 19%, helped by Facebook/Snapchat partnerships adding users and inventory, leading DMGT to make push a theme of its "path to profitability".
Analysts at Investec see good value upside in DMGT’s portfolio of businesses with new management as a potential catalyst, with the company's long-time digital advisor Zwillenberg appointed last year.
"While we feel somewhat bruised, recent share price falls therefore look a long term buying opportunity in our view," they said on Friday.
