Director dealings: Morses Club CEO made £0.2m sale days before profit warning

Morses Club’s just-departed chief executive officer Paul Smith was at the top of the sellers’ list on Monday, as the company disclosed a £0.2m sale on the same day it issued a major profit warning.

The AIM-traded doorstep lender said Smith sold 464,119 shares on 17 February, for 42.65p each, netting him £197,946.75.

On Monday morning, the company warned its adjusted profit before tax was likely to be 20% to 30% below current market forecasts, after a “rapid increase” in claims submitted by claims management companies.

At the same time, it said Smith - who has been at the helm of Morses Club since before its listing in 2016 - had stepped down with immediate effect, being replaced by chief operating officer Gary Marshall.

On the buying side of things, NewRiver REIT disclosed a purchase worth almost £30k, made by a non-executive director.

The real estate investment trust said Alastair Miller bought 32,790 shares at 91p each, on the London Stock Exchange, spending £29,838.90 in the process.

Following the transaction, NewRiver said Miller held 68,746 of its ordinary shares.
